Hormuud Salaam Foundation

About Hormuud Salaam Foundation

HSF is a non-profit organisation fully funded by Hormuud Telecom, Salaam Somali Bank, Taaj Money Transfer and Buruuj Constructions Company. HSF was established in 2013 as the first corporate foundation in Somalia.

Since then, we have grown to become Somalia’s largest private philanthropic organisation and have played a significant part in Somalia’s development. HSF is based in Mogadishu and funds and executes a range of impact driven development, infrastructure, education, healthcare and humanitarian programmes across Somalia. Our projects are facilitated, in part, by our funders’ teams and infrastructure.

Healthcare

We are improving public health infrastructure in Mogadishu by funding the renovation of major public hospitals, by improving reliable energy access and x-ray capacity, by donating basic medical materials, and by establishing the country’s first dialysis wing.

The coronavirus pandemic brought health inequities to the limelight. HSF assisted the country through the pandemic by donating the country’s first oxygen plant for public use, in addition to over 6,000 oxygen canisters ahead of its arrival. We built a covid wing, to isolate infected patients and financially supported frontline workers.

Education

Education for Special Needs Students

Somalis with disabilities struggle to access to public services. To answer this challenge in part, HSF supports Al-Nur School for the Blind, currently educating 120 students who would otherwise not have access to education.

Education and Scholarships

HSF is a Chevening scholarship partner . We also provide 5,000 scholarships to Somalia’s rising stars at all educational levels and have established Buruuj Technical School to provide vocational training in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and other hard skills.

Ramadaan Programs

Ramadan is a very important time for the HSF, it is a time of reflection and giving.

Our annual Ramadan programme assists 5,000 beneficiaries each year, including disabled persons, low-income women, minorities and disadvantaged communities, veterans, orphans, IDPs, and prisoners of the Central Prison in Mogadishu.
